Meet some of the K9s we serve.

Spokane Police K9s

  • Ofc. Fabian & King

King is a purebred German Shepherd and is partnered with Sr. Police Officer Brandon Fabian. King’s birthday is March 25th and he is an Apprehension Canine: one of the department’s SWAT level K9s. He loves riding in boats and his favorite toy is his “Kong on a Rope.” In the unit, King is known for two things that are opposite of each other: During training he becomes extremely quiet, almost like a big game cat does when stalking its prey, but during work while out on the streets, he is known as the “most talkative K9” in the unit. Everyone can hear when King is on the scene, long before they see him.

  • Ofc. Blankenstein & Ciro

Ciro is a Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd Cross and is from the Czech Republic. He is partnered with Officer Brian Blankenstein and his birthday is June 18th, 2015. He was formally a drug detection dog and is an Apprehension Specialist. Ciro loves hiking, playing fetch and pretending he is a lap dog. He is a world class climber and any fence is fair game for him to climb over. He also gets regular acupuncture and laser treatments on his hips, which he absolutely loves.

  • Ofc. Maguire & Viper

Viper is a purebred Belgian Malinois and is from Belgium. He is partnered with Officer Shawn Maguire and his birthday is March 1st, 2022. He loves belly scratches, his favorite toy, and trips to the park for walks. He really enjoys water and is a very good swimmer. He also loves playing Chuck-It and is known in the unit for being super speedy fast.

  • Ofc. Guzzo & Ghost

Ghost, who is also known as “Moose” or “The Tactical Corgi!” is a purebred German Shepherd and is partnered with Corporal Anthony Guzzo, a member of the Spokane SWAT team. Ghost is originally from Hungary and his birthday is September 18th, 2021. He loves to roll in the grass around his yard and enjoys wrestling and playing with the other dogs at home. He also loves a good game of Muzzle Soccer. His toy of choice is his “ball on a rope” and would do just about anything for it. He has a very calm disposition and is often extremely quiet, rarely showing his true level of excitement. He is very methodical about the way he approaches searches, making sure to not leave anything un-sniffed. He came to the unit without a tail and no information was given as to what happened to it. Every once in a while however, you can catch him “wiggling his nub” if he gets excited enough.
